Iran's "Financial Tribune" reported on February 8 that Zadeboom, head of Iran's trade promotion organization, wrote to the Iranian date Industry Association that between April 3 and May 20 this year, date exports will be levied tariffs, and the tax rate will be announced in the near future。The measure is aimed at regulating the domestic market and preventing possible price increases during Ramadan, when jujube consumption will increase as it is a typical staple food for Muslims after they break their daily fast。Previously, many industry insiders have repeatedly expressed opposition to the imposition of export tariffs on dates。Farhitchin, head of the Agriculture committee of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, said that in the last Iranian calendar year, Iran's date production reached 800,000 tons, of which 380,000 tons were exported。Iran is currently facing an oversupply of dates, partly due to export tariffs。It is said that the per capita consumption of dates in Iran is 3 kg per year, and the annual domestic consumption is about 250,000 tons。In addition to the increased demand during Ramadan, the current price of Iranian dates is also soaring in line with inflation。
